Beds - General

Why Would The SonderCare Bed Be Good For Me?

The SonderCare bed is a full-electric hospital bed, engineered to the latest international certifications. It not only provides the ultimate in comfort positioning for sleeping, eating, reading, or watching TV, but also offers the safety and assistance you require for safe transfers and the prevention of falls. SonderCare beds provide unparalleled support for proper mobility and conditions such as swelling, COPD, indigestion, sleep apnea and snoring, all in a beautiful package to suit the decor of your room.

Is It A Fully Certified Hospital Bed?

Yes. The Aura™ beds are certified to the latest international hospital bed regulations.

What Is The Difference Between Fully Electric And Semi-Electric Beds?

Yes, the Aura™ bed has full-electric functionality including head, knee, hi-lo (up/down), and Trendelenburg (tilt).

What's The Difference Between Premium And Platinum?

The Aura Premium model is outfitted in the Espresso Woodgrain finish on the headboard, footboard, and side panels, while the Platinum model incorporates the Slate Gray Crypton™ fabric. The functions and operation of the Premium and Platinum models is identical, but some clients who prefer the appearance and feel of upholstery, along with a higher headboard and shorter footboard, will opt for the Platinum version.

What Is Crypton Fabric?

Crypton is a health-care grade fabric, so it’s fluid-proof, stain-resistant and odor-resistant. SonderCare uses an ultra-soft Crypton material on our Platinum beds and lift chairs to make them smooth and comfortable to the touch.

Beds - Operation

Does The Bed Go Up And Down?

Yes, the Aura™ bed has full-electric functionality including head, knee, hi-lo (up/down), and Trendelenburg (tilt).

What Are All The Positions The Bed Can Do?

The Aura™ bed has the ability to raise/lower the head and knee sections individually or jointly (contour). The entire bed can raise up and down (hi-lo) and the bed can tilt forward and backward (Trendelenburg), which lets you achieve Chair and Zero Gravity positions.

How Do You Operate The Bed?

All bed functions and positions are operated electronically through the wired, easy-to-use hand controller.

Can The Bed Be Moved Easily?

Yes, the Aura™ bed is equipped with dual-casters under each corner column. A central brake pedal locks and unlocks all four corners for great stability and easy moving.

Can You Hide The Remote From The Person In The Bed?

If caregivers or loved ones need to prevent the user from operating the bed, some or all of the functions can be locked out. Alternatively, the hand control can be hooked onto the back of the headboard and out-of-reach of the user.

Beds - Siderails

How Many Rails Does The Bed Come With?

The bed is equipped with two rails at the head end. You may choose to add one or two additional rails.

Can You Adjust The Rails To Different Heights?

Yes. The rails are easily adjustable to three heights:

  • Access (Low) - Below the mattress; unobstructed access
  • Assist (Mid) - Slightly above the mattress; good for transfers
  • Protect (High) - Well above the mattress; often used during sleep

Do The Rails Come Off The Bed?

While it is not common, the rails can be removed from the bed, if desired. Contact your SonderCare representative for the proper hardware required.

What If We Can’t Use Rails In Our Assisted Living Building?

We know that some communities restrict the use of bed rails, so the Aura™ bed can be used either without rails or with a Halo Ring Assist Device.

Does The Platinum Bed Have Side Rails?

Your Aura™ Platinum bed is available in three rail configurations:

  • Full-Fabric sides (No Rails)
  • Half-Fabric sides (One Rail and One Fabric Panel Per Side)

Bedding & Accessories

Will Standard Sheets Work With The Sondercare Bed?

Twin XL sheets are a standard size and work best for the Aura(™) 39” beds (although regular Twin size can usually be used as well). These are available from SonderCare in either 100% organic cotton or premium microfiber, or available from your preferred bedding retailer.
The 48” Extra Wide beds work best with a 48” sheet set (available from SonderCare or other online stores, retailers of health care products or RV accessories). Some clients will use Full size sheet sets with the understanding that there will be some extra material to be tucked in.

Do I Have To Buy My Accessories Now Or Can I Buy Them Later?

All of our accessories are designed so that they can be installed before or after delivery. Most accessories can be installed easily without tools, but some may require a service visit if ordered after delivery.

What Happens When The Power Goes Out?

The optional battery back-up is a nice accessory to add if power failures are common in your area or your building/residence does not have generator power.

Mattresses

Does It Come With A Mattress?

Because you can match any SonderCare bed with any model of SonderCare mattress (or your own mattress), we price each one separately.

What Mattress Options Are Compatible With The Sondercare Bed?

There are two standard mattress options available with the SonderCare bed:

  1. Dream™ Mattress (7” with Bamboo Quilt-Top & Optional Fluid-Proof Cover)
  2. Comfort™ Mattress (6” with Fluid-Proof Cover)

For clients at high-risk of skin breakdown (bed sores, pressure ulcers), we also have Alternating Pressure & Low-Air-Loss mattresses available. Ask your SonderCare representative for details.

What's The Difference Between The Dream And The Comfort Mattress?

Both the Dream and Comfort mattress are foam, pressure-redistribution mattresses with a strong foundation layer, firm perimeter edges, and a Visco memory foam layer with cooling gel to reduce pressure and maintain optimal temperature. The Dream mattress has the added benefit of a bamboo quilt-top which more closely resembles a home-style mattress and makes turning and repositioning in bed easier. The Dream mattress is also reversible, with a softer and firmer side to suit your preference.

Is The Mattress Soft Or Firm?

The Dream™ mattress - with a bamboo quilt top layer - has both Softer and Firmer sides, so you can select the right firmness for you. The Comfort™ mattress has a soft Visco foam top layer and is not reversible.

Ordering and Payments

Should I Order By Phone Or Online?

It’s up to you! Whether you prefer to order through our website or speak directly with one of our bed experts, you’ll receive your Order Confirmation by email and our logistics team will be in touch to go over the details of your delivery.

Do You Take Medicare?

Unfortunately, since Medicare will only provide coverage for a very basic, semi-electric bed, the SonderCare beds are not covered by this insurer.

Do You Have Payment Plans?

Yes, we do. Plans can be tailored to our clients’ specific needs. Contact a SonderCare representative to work out your plan.

Do You Deal Directly With Insurance Companies?

Some of our clients have private insurance that offers full or partial coverage of our fully-electric hospital beds. We suggest that you contact your insurance provider for details. We can supply a quote prior to purchase or the invoice following an order. Unfortunately we do not work with Medicare or Medicaid.

Is There A Standard Package That You Prepare For Insurance Companies?

There is not a standard package, but we can prepare a quote based on your requirements.

Delivery

Where Do You Deliver Beds To?

We deliver everywhere in the United States and Canada.

How Long Does It Take To Get A Bed Delivered?

We’ll get it there when you need it! Standard beds will typically be delivered within 10-14 days of ordering in the US and Canada (Hawaii, Alaska, and Canadian territories may incur longer shipping times).
For clients with urgent requirements, we have options for Expedited Delivery (4-9 days) and Rush Delivery (1-3 days) in most areas.

What Is Expedited Delivery?

In most cases, we can accommodate quick deliveries for clients with urgent requirements by transferring products between warehouses, bringing in additional installers, or changing schedules. Additional fees of $299 (Expedited; 4-9 days) or $499 (Rush; 1-3 days) applies. We ask that you call to confirm.

What Is White Glove Delivery Vs. Drop-ship Delivery?

When the White Glove service is requested, our delivery team will arrive with the bed on its specialized Transport Cart. The installers will set the bed up in the desired room, perform a function-check, and remove all packaging.
For Drop-Ship service, the bed will be delivered on a pallet to the driveway or loading area of the residence.

What If I Don't Know When I Need Delivery?

You can order the bed at any time and we’ll have it prepared and staged at your local warehouse. Call us when you’re ready to schedule the delivery.

Demonstrations & Service

What Is A Virtual Demo?

Many of our clients have specific questions and want to see the functions and operation of the bed and other accessories. We can schedule a time for you and your loved ones to have a personalized, one-on-one session with a bed expert in our showroom, all from the comfort of your living room. Virtual Demos can be performed on any platform, but usually Zoom or FaceTime. Call to schedule yours today.

Who Do I Call If Something Goes Wrong With The Bed?

Call the SonderCare office at 1-833-649-7772 and we’ll take care of you.

Where Can I Go To See The Bed In Person?

We do have some retail showrooms available to see the beds and, if there isn’t a showroom nearby, we would be more than happy to arrange a private virtual demonstration for you. Call SonderCare and we’ll find the best solution for you.

Where Are You Located?

We have over 120 regional and local warehouses located throughout the US and Canada. Central warehouses are located in St. Louis, MO, and London, Ontario.
